Betsy DeVos Is An Open-Minded Woman Who Approves Of Multiple Educational Reform Strategies

Betsy DeVos is a business leader in the United States who believes that the educational system in her nation is due for an overhaul. She has been at the forefront of the school choice movement for over 30 years and continues to fight for what she believes is right. While her main focus has been on passing legislation that will aid poor families who can barely afford to pay the tuition of charter or private schools, she really hopes to see a change of mindset in her country. She is frustrated that most people still believe in a system where students must attend a specific school based on the zip code of where their home exists.

Betsy DeVos has been a major supporter of charter school expansion in the United States. She helped to expand charter schools in Michigan for many years and has worked hard to do so elsewhere, too. DeVos sees digital learning as being very beneficial for the upcoming generation because many children know more about technology than adults do. Instead of ignoring technology and digital teaching methods in today’s school system, she would like to see a more digital classroom. With this being said, she believes that digital learning is really just getting underway and that it will have more influence on the educational system in the U.S. in the future.

Betsy DeVos recently revealed that she believes that homeschooling is a good option for some families in the USA. She commented in a recent interview that there are more and more families who are choosing homeschooling. While the majority of families who homeschool their children live in rural areas, she has noticed that more families from urban areas are beginning to do so. She feels the reason for this has to do with these families feeling like they have no power to choose where their children receive their education. Homeschooling a child is a choice, and DeVos believes that families in the USA should be able to make this choice if they deem it necessary.

Betsy DeVos grew up in a Dutch community in Holland, Michigan where most people favored school choice. She worked in her father’s auto parts store when she was younger and studied at Calvin College where she eventually received her Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics. DeVos recently revealed that the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation has been donating millions of dollars to the charity sector over the years. In 2015, alone, the foundation donated more than $13 million to charitable causes. It was discovered that more than $3 million of that money went to educational organizations that are either working towards reform or are working to better the school system in the United States.
